Holbeach
Holbeach is one of England’s largest parishes with a busy market and a range of shops and facilities to service most needs. There is a market every Thursday and Saturday, and a monthly Farmer’s Market together with several interesting independent shops in the High Street. The Holbeach Christmas Fayre and Summer Vintage Tractor Rally and Show are well worth a visit. In the impressive Parish Church of All Saints, built largely in the 14th Century, see an exhibition telling the story of Holbeach. The town has a good range of historic pubs and restaurants to suit all tastes, most of which are conveniently situated in the town centre. There are several Georgian houses in and around the High Street, and the Ten Acre Carter’s Park with sporting facilities and children’s playground is popular with locals and visitors alike. There are pre-school facilities, two Primary Schools, and Holbeach Technical College and Science Park, which is linked to Lincoln University. Holbeach is also the birthplace of the antiquary, physician and anglian priet, Willaim Stukley, and Nobel Prize winner, Norman Angle – whose 18th Century house is in the High Street. There is a peaceful circular cycle routes around the town, and Holbeach is situated on the Hull to Harwich cycle route. Holbeach itself is regularly commended in the Britian in Bloom awards and has been voted amongst the ’Best Kept Villages’ in Lincolnshire. |
